If you struggle with a dry complexion, you’re not going to want to miss these top tips on how to prevent dry skin. From new skincare essentials to lifestyle changes, we’ve got all the tips you need to revive your dry skin. Here are our four ways you can give your skin some extra TLC and rescue your dry skin.

Why Do We Get Dry Skin

There are multiple reasons as to why your skin can turn dry, and it doesn’t just have to be because of your ‘skin type’ – dry skin can affect anyone at any age or time. Some causes of dry skin include:

  • Weather
  • Over-exfoliating
  • Hot showers
  • Central heating

Don’t worry, we’re not saying you should avoid going outside and never take a hot shower again! Instead, you might want to take extra precautions in your everyday routine to avoid developing dry skin.

How to Prevent Dry Skin

1. Moisturise

It goes without saying that moisturiser will be your best friend when it comes to preventing dry skin. Moisturiser can also help you achieve glowing skin. While searching for the perfect moisturiser to use, you’ll want to look for ingredients such as shea butter, honey, or petrolatum. These ingredients can help target dry patches and replenish any hydration.

2. Drink Plenty of Water

Staying hydrated is essential for your overall health and wellbeing, but it can also help to rescue dry skin. Making sure you drink the recommended amount of water – two litres a day – can help your body to stay hydrated and support your skin’s elasticity. In addition, drinking plenty of water can also help unclog any blocked pores.

3. Don’t Over Wash

As relaxing as a hot bath and shower may be, you want to try and avoid spending too much time in them. The hot water can strip your body’s natural oils on the skin, which can cause dry skin. After a hot bath or shower, remember to pat your skin dry and moisturise your skin immediately to lock-in the hydration.

4. Incorporate Supplements into Your Routine

Nourishing your body with essential nutrients is another way to help prevent dry skin. Here are some supplements which can help promote your skin health:

Hyaluronic Acid

Hyaluronic acid is a moisture molecule that can be found naturally in the skin, but when we age this natural molecule can slowly decline. Our Skin Boost Hyaluronic Acid Supplements help to provide the body with essential nutrients such as biotin, zinc, selenium, and vitamin C.

Collagen

Collagen plays an important role in strengthening your skin, as well as providing it with elasticity and hydration. Introducing collagen supplements can help support your skin health, while also helping to prevent collagen decline as you get older.

At Vital Proteins, we have a range of beauty collagen supplements available in two delicious flavours – Tropical Hibiscus, and Watermelon Mint – that can help support your skin health. Mix one scoop into your favourite hot or cold drink and enjoy!
